Fife Councilman Robert Cerqui has filed paperwork setting up a Democratic campaign for the state House seat being vacated by Rep. Joyce McDonald, R-Puyallup.
Cerqui was elected to the council in 2003 and re-elected in November. His brief city bio indicates “he comes from a long line of Fife Farmers and is proud to still toil in his agricultural roots.”
Already seeking the seat is Republican Bruce Dammeier, a member of the Puyallup School Board, and the Progressive Party’s Laurence Pratt, also of Puyallup.
Through the end of April Dammeier had raised almost $74,000 for his campaign.
UPDATE: I don't know why but candidates for legislative offices in the Tacoma area never think to e-mail their press releases to the Tri-City Herald. I'm kidding.
It turns out my scoop lasted for only about 90 minutes or so because Cerqui shipped a release to the News Tribune, which then posted it on its Political Buzz blog, which you can find here.
UPDATE: An earlier version erroneously referred to McDonald as "D-Puyallup." She's a Republican. Not sure how that got goofed up. My apologies.
