ChangMook Sohn, the state’s longtime chief economist, this morning confirmed what had long been rumored. He’s running for state Treasurer.
You can find his campaign website here.
Sohn recently issued his 94th and final quarterly revenue forecast before announcing he’d step down.
“I know Washington’s finances better than anyone and I’m ready to put that knowledge to work for the people of Washington,” Sohn said in a press release.
Sohn, a Democrat, is widely respected in Olympia on both sides of the aisle.
Already in the running for the post being vacated by Democrat Mike Murphy is state Rep. Jim McIntire, D-Seattle, and Republican assistant state Treasurer Allan Martin.
UPDATE: Gov. Chris Gregoire was asked about the Democratic primary between McIntire and Sohn at her morning press conference. She is not taking a side.
"I value his judgement," Gregoire said of Sohn. "I value his counsel."
Of McIntire, Gregoire said "he's been a stellar legislator."
