Summer family fun heats up as the fair kicks off

It’s time to put on your boots and jeans and head out to the Benton Franklin Fair & Rodeo and join the Herald for our summer classic family good time.

Last year, fair attendance topped 129,000, and fair officials expect even more this year thanks to strong community sponsorships, as our Sunday edition will report.

Our Sunday story also will provide a preview of some new activities planned for this year, including a Hispanic rodeo with a musical twist.

There’s more. Cooking demos, for instance, will help whet fairgoers’ appetites for more traditional fair food. And an outdoor sporting exhibit will feature a waterfowl calling contest, archery contest and a retriever contest.

Finally, don’t forget the always-popular demolition derby, nightly performances by popular entertainers, animal judging and exhibitions and the Horse Heaven Hills Roundup rodeo.

Herald reporters and photographers will be at the fair all week recording all the fun in feature stories and photos. Don’t forget to check out the photo galleries that we’ll be posting on tri-cityherald.com as well.

See you all there!
