Ever wonder why the Herald does something? Or how? Or "what were they thinking?" Now you can find out. Executive Editor Ken Robertson and Managing Editor Rick Larson will do their best to explain what happens in the TCH newsroom - and why. |
Across the Mid-Columbia, thousands of soon-to-be high school graduates, their parents, grandparents, friends and relatives all are bracing for one of the region’s most significant events of the year.
The spring ritual of graduation is well under way, and culminates in our cities and towns tonight and Saturday with caps and gowns of every color, no doubt tens of thousands of photographs, scores of parties and celebrations and more.
At the Herald, we’re again dispatching teams of reporters and photographers to cover these events and preparing to publish several pages of stories and photos Saturday and Sunday in the paper and hundreds of photos and thousands of words on tricityherald.com.
With our combined strength of the Herald website and newspaper, we now can cover graduation in more depth than ever.
Ever since I came to the Herald 33 years ago, we’ve made the annual rite of spring a major focus of our news coverage. And each year we’ve tried to make it better.
On Thursday, we published our annual special section listing the thousands of students who’ve achieved this milestone, along with information about the planned ceremonies.
And we started posting graduation galleries and stories online and publishing the same stories and a selection of photos last weekend.
But Friday evening and Saturday are always the time for the main events. We hope you’ll enjoy our work, both online and in the newspaper. They complement one another nicely.
And if you have a special photo of your graduate or a moment of graduation, you can join in the coverage this year. Go to tri-cityherald.com/sendphoto/ to upload your favorite shot.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the Herald’s team of photographers and reporters will bring our communities. And I also want to see your best photos as well.
Help us do an even better job this year.
And enjoy this wonderful milestone that showcases the achievements of our graduating seniors.
