CWU offers world wine courses

ELLENSBURG -- Discover some great wines for under $10, how to match cheese and wine and which are the latest up and coming wine regions at a series of wine classes through the World Wine Program at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.
Amy Mumma, program coordinator and lead instructor of the World Wine Program, will be leading the classes on a far-ranging journey through the wine world.
The classes are:
-- Nov. 6 -- Great Wines for Under $10.
-- Feb. 5 -- Wine & Cheese
-- April 9 -- New and Upcoming Wine Regions
The cost is $35 per class, or attend all three for $95. All classes are held at 5:30 p.m. in the Mary Grupe Center on the CWU campus. For a map, go to www.cwuce.org/wine-education/map.asp.
Seating is limited and advance registration is required. There are no at-the-door ticket sales. Classes are open to anyone age 21 or over.
On March 5, Mumma will lead a separate class on Blue Chip Wines covering classic Bordeaux to Burgundy, traditional and specialized Italian vintages along with the best of Washington wines. It will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Mary Grupe Center. The cost is $75.
On May 8, the Ellensburg Chamber of Commerce will hold a wine festival downtown . Several businesses will open their doors from 3 to 7 p.m. to host many of Washington's fine wineries.
Stroll the downtown area, listen to live music and sample some of the state's best vintages.
Tickets for the festival are $30 and include a commemorative glass and 10 scrip for tasting.
