Enhance your Oregon Coast vacation with cooking classes

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. -- Enjoy combining vacations with learning new culinary techniques? Head for the Oregon Coast this month or next, and you can add beachcombing and wave watching to your holiday activities.

The Pacific Coast Center for Culinary Art in Lincoln City is offering a series of classes on how to make sweet and savory crepes, summer sandwiches and salads, plus Thai, Japanese, Italian and French foods.

The classes will be taught by Sharon Wiest, executive chef at the Pacific Coast Center, Justin Wills, executive chef at The Bay House Restaurant in Lincoln City, and guest chefs.

Most of the classes are hands-on, so wear comfortable shoes and clothes suitable for cooking. Cost of each class is $50, with the meal and wine included.

Here's the class lineup:

June 10 -- In this demonstration class, Wills will take you on a culinary tour of Japan. The class runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

June 12 -- In this demonstration class, Wiest will explore the fun and variety of eating small plates utilizing the bounty of the season and the coast. The class runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

June 18 -- In this demonstration class, Wills will explore the fresh flavors and dishes of Thailand. The class runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

June 20 -- This is a hands-on class to explore grilling techniques for steak and veggies plus an heirloom tomato salad, redskin potato salad and strawberry shortcake. The class runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

June 25 -- In this demonstration class, Wills will take you on tour of the southern regions of Italy. The class runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

June 27 -- In this hands-on class, you'll utilize all the best local produce to make gourmet paninis, gazpacho, salads and more. The class runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

July 1 -- In this hands-on class, you'll master the art of sweet and savory crepe making. The class runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

July 9 -- Barbecuing with Wills. The class runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

July 11 -- In this hands-on class, you'll explore all the wonderful ways to eat Oregon marionberries, blackberries and raspberries. The class runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

July 18 -- Learn some French favorites including Country Pâte with Corichon, Dijon Mustard, French Bread, Seasonal Vegetables with a Saffron Aioli, Onion Tart, Marinated Cheese and Olives and Fruit Gallette topped with Créme Fraîche. The class runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

July 23 -- Southeast Asian and Indian Cooking. The class runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

July 25 -- Learn some Italian favorites including French Fried Potatoes and Rosemary, Summer Vegetable Ravioli, Pork Rib Roast, Slow-Cooked Garlic/Rosemary Cannellini Beans, Roasted Peppers with Tomatoes, Italian Flat Bread and Coffee Eaten with a Fork. The class runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

July 30 -- Learn Cajun and Creole cooking. The class runs from 6 to 9 p.m.
