Sip, cook, relax on weekend getaway

By the Herald staff

WALLA WALLA -- If you enjoy cooking and fine wines then you'll want to sign up for this year's lineup of Walla Walla Gourmet Getaways.

The Getaways, organized by Tourism Walla Walla, offer a unique opportunity to spend a weekend tasting your way through some of Washington's premier wines and learn some new recipes from 12 professional chefs.

The Walla Walla Gourmet Getaways package features nine participating bed and breakfasts and a hands-on cooking class with local chefs.

The Walla Walla Gourmet Getaways package is ideal for food and wine enthusiasts. Couples book a two-night stay at one of the nine participating bed and breakfasts. The package includes a two-night stay at the inn of their choice and one of two featured cooking classes.

After class, the students and chefs sit down and dine on what they've prepared. Each weekend, different Walla Walla-area wineries will be featured and students will be able to enjoy two glasses of wine during class.

Cooking classes will be Saturdays at different restaurants and cooking schools. These are hands-on classes, so dress for cooking, though a Walla Walla Gourmet Getaway apron is included in each package.

Classes are from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with one exception, the March 21 class with Chef Hannah of Brasserie Four will be from 2 to 5 p.m.
