ZILLAH -- Spring barrel wine tasting also comes to the Rattlesnake Hills Wine Trail wineries the weekend of April 25-27. Six of the 15 wineries in this region -- Wapato, Zillah, Granger, Outlook and Zillah -- also are members of Wine Yakima Valley, an association of wineries and grape growers.
All the Rattlesnake Hills wineries will be featuring new releases, discounts and samples of unfinished wines straight from the barrel. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. all three days.
Several will have snacks, or even full meals, available for purchase including cajun barbecue and chocolates at Bonair Winery, Angel's Posole soup at Eaton Hill Winery, oysters on the half shell at Severino Cellars and grilled sausages and asparagus at Steppe Cellars.
There also will be music at several wineries including: Two Mountain Winery featuring Distant Satellite band from 3 to 6 p.m. April 26; Maison de Padgett Winery featuring a live band from noon to 3 p.m. April 26 and Hyatt Vineyards featuring Blind Lemon Pie band in the afternoon April 26-27.
There's no charge for tasting, but consider buying a Rattlesnake Hills Passport. It costs $5 and entitles you to discounts on wine and free reserve tastings at various wineries. It's good one time at each winery but never expires.
Have your passport stamped at 10 wineries, and you'll get a free gift and be added to the invitation list for the Passport Party in August, where you'll be wined and dined by all the passport winemakers.
Also, take a glass along or buy one at your first stop.
The Rattlesnake Hills wineries are generally off Interstate 82 from exits 44 to 63. Find a full list of the wineries and more information at www.rattlesnakehills.com. Or call 888-375-7498.
