Food for Thought: Symphony fundraiser will wine, dine you

By Loretto J. Hulse, Herald staff writer

It's not often that you can enjoy a fine meal, each course paired with a premium wine, take home a piece of art and support the musical arts in the Mid-Columbia.

But buy a ticket for Perfect Harmony, a fundraiser for the Mid-Columbia Symphony, and that's what you'll be doing March 29 at the Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland.

The event, sponsored by the Tri-Cities Wine Society, begins at 6 p.m. with an artist's reception and silent auction. Seven of the Tri-Cities' premier artists in sculpture, painting, fiber arts and more will be at the reception and have their creations on display in a silent auction.

A four-course gourmet dinner built around Buffalo Osso Bucco will follow the auction. After dessert comes the live auction featuring a wide variety of wines, vacation and entertainment packages and more.

Some of the auction highlights: Magnums from various wineries including Leonetti Cellar, an "instant cellar" made up of one bottle from each of the Prosser wineries and a photograph by Tri-City artist John Clement.

A portion of the proceeds from Perfect Harmony will go to the Mid-Columbia Symphony.

Tickets are $125 per person and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are available at the Mid-Columbia Symphony office, 716 Jadwin Ave., Richland, or call 943-6602. Office hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Friday. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Blend for your health

If you're looking for a way to add more fresh fruits to your diet, Del Monte Fresh Produce has a suggestion: Smoothies. Go to the company's website, www.fruits.com, and you'll find more than 20 recipes for tasty, fruity smoothies.

Anytime you visit the site between now and April 14, you also can put your name into a drawing for three Breville appliances -- a juicer, a blender and a cordless hand blender. That's the top prize, but even if you don't win them, there's still a chance you'll be awarded one of the consolation prizes: a year's supply of bananas or a pineapple slicer.
