Wine events abound throughout March

By Loretto J. Hulse, Herald staff writer

If you enjoy delicious foods, tasty wines and need a break from the winter doldrums, you're in luck. Whether you're looking for a special tasting, a chance to chat with winemakers or a festive food and wine event, they're all happening in the next few weeks.

Here's the schedule:

Sip and chat

"Behind the Bottle," a series of wine tastings featuring some of the Mid-Columbia's finest wines, will be held Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robust Coffeehouse and Wine Bar. Owners Lara and Colin Hastings have invited wine makers and representatives from three wineries to pour their vintages, one winery a week, through March.

Scheduled are: Thursday, Fidelitas; March 20, Canon de Sol; and March 27, Gamache Vintners.

There's a $5 charge per person, which includes the wine, a chance to chat with knowledgeable winery representatives and enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres. No reservations are required.

Robust Coffeehouse and Wine Bar is at 27 N. Auburn St., Kennewick. For more information, go to robustcoffeeandwine.com.

New vintages at Maryhill

Enjoy live music, barbecued foods and seven new vintages during Spring Release Weekend on Saturday and Sunday at Maryhill Winery in Goldendale. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

For more information, go to www.maryhillwinery.com.

Take a bite out of Walla Walla

Feast Walla Walla -- an event featuring food, wine and art -- will be from 1 to 4 p.m. April 12 in downtown Walla Walla.

More than 50 wineries, restaurants, specialty food vendors and artists will be set up in heated tents covering First Avenue from Main to Alder streets. There also will be music and an opportunity to purchase the wines being poured.

A portion of the proceeds from the retail sales of bottled wines will benefit the Downtown Walla Walla Foundation.

Tickets cost $45 per person and include a souvenir wine glass and 10 tokens to exchange for food and wine. Additional tokens can be purchased during the event.

For more information or to buy tickets, go to www.feastwallawalla.com or call 509-529-8755. Checks also can be mailed to: Downtown Walla Walla Foundation, 2 S. First Ave. Suite 300, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
