Costume ball fundraiser set Saturday in Kennewick

Put on your glad rags, tuck a credit card into your pocket and head for the 14th annual Mardi Gras Costume Ball and Auction on Saturday at Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick.

The evening includes a costume contest, a cajun dinner with a no-host bar, live and silent auctions and music and entertainment. The silent auction opens at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Benton Franklin Humane Society, the Tri-Cities' only no-kill animal shelter.

Tickets cost $50 per person. Buy your tickets in advance at the Humane Society, 8620 W. Gage Blvd., Kennewick, or call 374-4235 and charge them to your credit card. Tickets purchased with a credit card will be held at the door for pickup.

Tickets also will be sold at the door the night of the event.

Saturday fundraiser to help with Kamiakin graduate party

Visit Cañon de Sol Winery in Kennewick on Saturday evening, and you'll be able to sip some wines, nibble on cheeses and desserts, and bid on a variety of merchandise in silent and live auctions.

Tickets cost $25 per person and are available at Albertsons on Clearwater Avenue in Kennewick and Gage Boulevard in Richland and Reflections Salon & Tanning in Queensgate Village in Richland.

In addition to Cañon de Sol, Anelare, Fidélitas and Goose Ridge wineries will be pouring samples of their vintages and Ice Harbor Brewing Co. will have samples of their microbrews.

The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. and is a fundraiser for Kamiakin High School's 2008 graduate party. The nightlong party will include games, food, prizes and entertainment.

Cooking classes planned in Prosser

PROSSER -- Executive Chef Gene Soto at Desert Wind Winery in Prosser will be teaching four cooking classes in March and April. Each class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. and is limited to 12 students. Cost is $40 per class and includes cooking instruction, wine and dinner.

Scheduled are:

-- March 5 and 19, Meatless Meals: Healthy and flavorful vegetarian dishes plus tips and techniques on incorporating meatless main dishes into your weekly meals.

-- April 2 and 16, Cooking with Wild Mushrooms: Learn how utilize in salads, side dishes and appetizers the abundance of wild mushrooms available in the Pacific Northwest.

Salt, air and wine on tap for Wines of Washington cruise
