Idaho man arrested after Kennewick crash

By Paula Horton, Herald staff writer

A 56-year-old Idaho man is in jail and his friend is in a Seattle hospital after a suspected alcohol-related crash early Thursday in Kennewick.

The crash at 10 N. Washington St. was reported around 1 a.m. Officers arrived and found a Honda S2000 on the grass with extensive front-end damage, said Sgt. Brian Swartswalter.

Russell David Martin of Post Falls, Idaho, is suspected of speeding east on Canal Drive and hitting an 18-inch-tall concrete retaining wall after missing a turn, Swartswalter said.

The Honda apparently went over the wall and stopped 10 to 15 feet later.

The passenger, Anthony T. Williams, 42, of Greenacres, hit the windshield and had numerous facial cuts, a broken jaw and some missing teeth.

He was taken to Kennewick General Hospital and transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was in satisfactory condition late Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Martin was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of vehicular assault.
