Firefighters with Benton fire districts 2, 3 and 4 fight a blaze Saturday afternoon at 26004 251 Private Road in Benton City. The house, south of West Yakitat Road, was reported on fire at about 2:15 p.m., but by the time the first fire engine arrived, about three-quarters of the home was engulfed and the roof was already on fire, said Capt. Bill Reed of Benton Fire District 2. A woman in her sixties who was renting the home tried to go back into the house in an attempt to free 16 small dogs trapped inside. None of the animals survived. The woman was treated for smoke inhalation by medics at the scene then transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. The house was a complete loss.
