A brush fire earlier this week east of Prosser burned an estimated 2,200 acres, including some animal habitats, fire officials said Thursday.

The fire started near the south side of Interstate 82 and quickly spread up a hill, said Capt. Seth Johnson with Fire District 3. It took crews from Benton and Walla Walla counties until 4 a.m. Wednesday to get the fire out.

No structures were lost.

A total of 86 firefighters from 11 different departments helped fight the blaze, Johnson said.
