July 17, 2014

A field fire July 16 near Clarks Canyon Road and Highway 207 near Heppner, Ore., had firefighters from Morrow and Umatilla counties requesting assistance from other agencies to help contain the fire.

The brush fire was fed by a continuous northwest wind and moved quickly, crossing Clarks Canyon to Highway 207 and Upper Rhea Creek Road. It was eventually contained near Sanford Canyon Road.

Though the fire came dangerously close to homes, no structures were lost in the blaze, officials said. About 15,000 to 20,000 acres were burned. Fire crews continue to maintain the area in search of potential hot-spots.
