Fire restrictions increased at Umatilla forest

Tri-City HeraldJuly 16, 2014

Fire restrictions are being increased at the Umatilla National Forest Services starting Saturday because of fire danger.

Chainsaws cannot be operated between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m., and a one-hour fire watch is required after sawing stops. Anyone operating a chainsaw must have an ax, shovel and fire extinguisher with them.

Smoking is allowed only in enclosed vehicles and buildings, developed recreation sites and cleared areas. No vehicle travel is allowed off road, off trail or on roads not cleared of standing grass or other flammable material. Some roads may be blocked.

Exploding targets are not allowed.
