Letter: Responsible gun ownership

July 14, 2014

In regard to Jane Samples' letter to the editor ("Gun Ownership," July 6) I have to respond that she should open her eyes and do a little research on gun ownership before writing such an ill-informed piece.

In the vast majority of states, a permit is not required to own a firearm. As a law-abiding citizen of Washington, it is my right to own any number and type of firearms.

Ownership does not absolve me or my fellow firearms owners of any responsibilities. Just the opposite: ownership demands our responsible use of firearms, which includes adhering to all the basic firearm safety rules, safe storage of firearms and teaching our youth and fellow citizens about the safe and responsible use and ownership of a firearm.
