Officials investigate suspicious fire at Kennewick playground

Santiago Playground Fire

Fire destroyed a playground Sunday at the Santiago Sunset Estates on Steptoe Street in Kennewick. Firefighters were called around 1:25 p.m. to the community of homes and the fire was put out shortly after they arrived. A witness told police they saw a boy leaving the scene quickly on a bicycle around the time the fire started. Officials are investigating the fire as an arson and estimate damages around $10,000. No injuries were reported.

— Police and fire officials are investigating a suspicious fire that caused thousands of dollars of damage to a Kennewick playground.

Firefighters were called around 1:25 p.m. Sunday to the Santiago Sunset Estates on Steptoe Street, police said. The fire destroyed a playground in the community of homes.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out shortly after arriving. No injuries were reported.

A witness told police they saw a boy leaving the scene quickly on a bicycle around the time the fire started.

Officials are investigating the fire as an arson and estimate damages around $10,000.
