Winemaker named manager at Bookwalter

Tri-City HeraldJuly 10, 2014

Renowned winemaker Caleb Foster, whose roots in the Walla Walla wine industry were planted more than two decades ago, has been named head winemaker and general manager for Richland-based J. Bookwalter.

Foster, who got his start at Woodward Canyon Winery and eventually helped launch Buty Winery where he spent 12 years, will begin at the 30,000-case-per-year winery Monday.

The new position represents a reunion of sorts with J. Bookwalter. In 2000, Foster started his own winery there.

A Whitman College graduate, Foster started winemaking in 1991 with Woodward Canyon. He eventually became assistant winemaker and director of operations. He spent one vintage at Ste. Michelle Wines before starting Caleb Foster Wines in 2000.
