Kennewick's Mandell advances in golf tourney

Kennewick’s Nick Mandell was the highest area finisher in stroke play Monday at the 113th Pacific Northwest Golf Association Men’s Amateur Championship at Palouse Ridge in Pullman.

Mandell tied for 13th place with a 137.

Mandell advances to match play now.

So does Richland’s Scott Kim (139), Othello’s Dillon Jahns (145) and Richland’s Cole Lorenzo (145).

The top 64 advance to match play. Dale Brandt-Richards of Sydney, Australia, followed up an impressive first round 6-under par 64 with a 3-under 67 to claim medalist honors.

w Aaren Ziegler on Canby, Ore., and Tyler Barker of Caldwell, Idaho, share the first-round lead at the PNGA Women’s Amateur Championship at Lewiston Golf & Country Club.

Both shot 71s. Kennewick’s Catherine Warner is tied for 12th at 77, while Richland’s Kristin Strankman is tied for 20th at 79.
