Reach center plans events on Manhattan Project

The new Reach center in Richland is offering events this month highlighting its Manhattan Project exhibit and celebrating Hanford Engineering Works.

Tours of the historic Hanford B reactor will depart at 11 a.m. from the Reach on July 14, 15, 16 and 17. Cost is $40, including transportation, interpretation at the B Reactor and lunch, plus admission to the Reach center. The tours last about 31/2 hours. Space is limited.

A storyteller's panel of Manhattan Project history is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. July 18 at the Reach. Cost is included with the Reach admission.

And a Mess Hall Dinner with the Tri-City Big Band and lindy hop dancing is July 19. A reception starts at 5 p.m. and dinner is at 6 p.m.

Cost is $60 for Reach members and $75 for others. A cash prize will be given for the best 1940s costume.

The Reach is at 1943 Columbia Park Trail at the west end of Columbia Park.
