Suicide cause of death for man found in West Richland

Tri-City HeraldJuly 7, 2014

— A man found dead inside an abandoned building at a former Little League baseball field in West Richland Saturday night died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Chief Brian McElroy of the West Richland police.

He has not been identified, but appeared to have been 20 to 30 years old. A shotgun was found near his body.

Police received a report at 11 p.m. Saturday that a man was barricaded in the building on the 4100 block of Fallon Drive near the West Richland Golf Course.

The building was locked and officers had to force their way in, finding a decomposed body, according to McElroy.

The body appeared to have been there several days, said Bill Leach, Benton County deputy coroner.

Benton County Coroner John Hansens will use dental records and other means to identify the body and then family will be notified, McElroy said in a press release.
