Body found at old West Richland ballpark

The body of a man was found Saturday in a building at a former Little League baseball field in West Richland.

The man, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, was found with a shotgun near his body near the West Richland Golf Course on Fallon Drive, said Bill Leach, Benton County deputy coroner. He said he was not prepared to call the death a suicide.

The man appeared to have been there for several days when the Leach arrived just after 1 a.m. Sunday.

“The state of decomposition was so great, I wasn’t able to do a very thorough examination,” Leach said.

They are still working on identifying the body, said Coroner John Hansens.
