Webcam ducklings hatch in West Richland

Tri-City HeraldJuly 2, 2014

— Ducklings started to hatch Tuesday evening in the West Richland area nest equipped with a Richland Rod and Gun Club duckcam.

The wood duck ducklings typically jump from the nest box about 24 hours after the hatch, said Dale Schielke, wood duck project coordinator for the club. The jump could be this afternoon.

The hen does not feed the ducklings, so they need to leave the nest to start feeding themselves.

This is the fourth wood duck nest the webcam has tracked this year and has 18 eggs.
