Tri-City Jehovah's Witnesses heading to Seattle for convention

Tri-City HeraldJune 30, 2014

Thousands of Jehovah's Witnesses from the Tri-City area will head to Seattle this week for their annual district convention.

The three-day event begins Friday and continues through Sunday at Husky Stadium at the University of Washington. Church members from overseas also will attend because it is an international convention, one of sixteen around the country this year, a release said.

Jehovah's Witnesses most recently held district conferences in the Tri-Cities last year at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick. The event brought about 16,000 people to the region and injected about $8.6 million into the local economy through the hotel, retail and restaurant industries, tourism officials said.

Church efforts to downsize the number of conventions reportedly led to the Tri-City event being eliminated, officials said, though the Jehovah's Witnesses are expected to return in future years.
