-- Todd Newhouse of Upland Vineyards, who represents the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers, was elected as vice chairman of the Winegrape Growers of America board.

Honors

-- Jud Virden, associate laboratory director at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, received a distinguished alumnus award from the University of Washington. Virden also delivered the commencement address at the graduation ceremony for the UW Chemical Engineering Department's class of 2014. The R. Wells Moulton Distinguished Alumnus Award is given annually to alumni of the UW Chemical Engineering program. Virden holds a bachelor's and a doctorate degree in chemical engineering from UW. At PNNL, Virden leads a team of nearly 1,000 staff in developing science and technology solutions for energy and environment challenges.

-- Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Fellow Greg Piepel has been honored as the first recipient of the Central Washington University College of Sciences Alumni of the Year award, for his continued passion and contribution to his field of study. Piepel is a member the American Statistical Association, the American Society for Quality and the International Statistics Institute. Piepel is an expert in the areas of experimental design, mixture experiments, regression and response surface methods and nuclear waste immobilization.
