Letter: Paving paradise

June 28, 2014

Before deciding to destroy the Amon Creek Natural Preserve, I strongly suggest Richland City Council members review the lyrics of Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi.

She sings: "Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone -- they paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Nothing has changed much in the 44 years since the words were written, but it doesn't (and shouldn't) have to be that way. Once this beautiful and amazing preserve is destroyed, it will be a bit too late to regret the decision.
