Walla Walla police catch bank robbery suspect quickly

— Walla Walla police had a suspect in custody less than 20 minutes after a Banner Bank branch was robbed Friday afternoon.

The branch at 600 S. Ninth Ave. in Walla Walla was robbed at 2:51 p.m. by a man who threatened to kill the manager if he didn’t give him money, according to police reports. No weapon was displayed.

Paul A. Schneider, 60, was spotted a few blocks away from the bank after the robbery and matched the description of the robber, according to police reports.

Walla Walla Police Capt. Chris Buttice took him into custody at gunpoint near the intersection of Chestnut and Sprague Streets.

A large amount of cash was discovered while searching Schneider, according to police reports.
