Two people were hurt in a three-car, chain-reaction collision Monday evening on Highway 240 in Richland, said the Washington State Patrol.

Diana L. Gulchuk, 19, of Richland, was headed east at 5:25 p.m. on the highway near Duportail Road in a 2003 Toyota Celica when a car in front of her slowed, and she ran into it.

She hit Jasmine K. Rives, 17, of Richland, in a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero, who had stopped in traffic behind a 2008 Ford Focus driven by Michael J. Jungers, 49, of Pasco. Rives' car was pushed into Jungers' car.

Gulchuk and Rives were taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland with injuries.

The state patrol said Gulchuk faces negligent driving charges.
