Sunnyside man arrested after police chase in Kennewick

June 23, 2014

— Kennewick police arrested a Sunnyside man suspected of stealing a vehicle after chasing the black 97 Honda Civic into a dead end road.

Marcos Montiel, 24, apparently had been released from jail just two hours before the Sunday morning car chase.

The car belongs to Dylan Amadio, 21, of Kennewick. His mother heard and saw the car start up and leave the apartment parking lot on the 1100 block of West 10th Avenue at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday.

The car apparently had a defective ignition switch and did not require a specific key to start it, according to police.

A Kennewick police officer near 10th Avenue and Kellogg Street spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it, but the driver did not yield.

The police officer chased the allegedly stolen car westbound on West 10th Avenue past Union Street until the suspect drove into a dead end street on 12th Avenue off of Columbia Center Boulevard.

No vehicles or property were damaged, according to police.

Police say Montiel is a documented gang member. Montiel was booked into jail on charges of auto theft, eluding and driving with a suspended license.
