Letter: Breaking law unavoidable

June 22, 2014

A recent letter's overly simplistic statement, saying don't break the law and you won't find yourself in legal trouble, only pointed to an ignorance to the true nature of the legal system that innocent citizens find themselves trapped in once someone with power sets their sights upon them.

Are you sure you haven't committed a crime? Did you get a permit for your last yard sale or water heater? Do you shovel your sidewalk within hours of it snowing? Ever jaywalk? The list in any given city of the laws that could and do pull innocent people into living nightmares is ridiculous.

Beware; all it takes is an ambitious prosecutor, a vindictive employee, one vengeful person to pull you, your reputation, your income, savings and your family into a nonstop fight to get your normal life back.
