A yard sale fundraiser to benefit Mushtaq Jihad of Richland is going on from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.

It’s in the parking lot of the Children’s Developmental Center, 1549 Georgia St. SE, Richland.

Columbia Center Rotary members are organizing the event.

An online auction with higher-value items also is under way. Go to www.biddingforgood.com/sarc to check out the items.

The yard sale features live entertainment from acts including Blackjack, Tri-Cities Jhankaar, Adventure Dirt Team, Tom Gnoza and Vibe.

Jihad came to the U.S. from Iraq as a refugee about six years ago, after being kidnapped by a militia group in his home country and targeted for retaliation after he pursued them in court. He lost his right leg and his infant son in a bomb blast. Last year, he was diagnosed with leukemia.

The yard sale and auction are aimed at raising the rest of the money needed to buy Jihad a quality prosthetic leg to help him with the goal of getting back to work to support his family. He and his wife, Adela, have four young daughters.
