Streets to be closed Sunday for Pasco bridge removal

Tri-City HeraldJune 20, 2014

The closed pedestrian bridge at 20th Avenue and Pearl Street in Pasco will be removed Sunday by the Pasco School District.

The removal will close the two streets from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., a district release said. It will not be replaced.

Nearby residents could see increased traffic through detours, and construction vehicles will use 20th and 14th avenues as well as Pearl Street during the demolition.

The bridge was closed last spring because of structural issues. It was installed decades ago to help Robert Frost Elementary School students safely cross 20th Avenue before there was a crosswalk or a traffic signal at the intersection.

Crossing guards have helped students cross the street since the bridge's closure.
