Food bank donation bins at Fred Meyer stores in Tri-Cities

Tri-City HeraldJune 17, 2014

Northwest Farmers Fighting Hunger, a partnership of Washington and Oregon dairies, will be at the Richland Fred Meyer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday to promote a monthlong food drive to benefit local food banks.

Anyone making a donation at Friday's event will receive a gift from the Dairy Farmers of Washington, from reusable grocery bags to coloring books for kids, as long as the supplies last.

This month is when food banks tend to see more needs, but fewer donations. Donations collected in Eastern Washington will benefit Second Harvest, which acts as a food bank to area food banks.

Northwest Dairy Farmers, Fred Meyer stores and the Departments of Agriculture in Washington and Oregon are working together to collect food and money to help.

Collection bins at Fred Meyer stores in both states are available for donations of canned or non-perishable food and other items.
