Letter: Benton assessor — Not Hillerman

June 12, 2014

Everyone in Benton County should know that Tony Hillerman, a candidate for the assessor position, is not from Benton County. Mr. Hillerman has lived in Yakima for decades. In the days prior to filing for this elected position, he rented a studio apartment to be eligible for the ballot. Mr. Hillerman should be ashamed of himself, and voters should reject this person and demand he immediately cease his campaign.

How can Mr. Hillerman expect to represent people he doesn't know? How can he represent a community he doesn't know or understand? Seems a little presumptuous, don't you think?

Believe it or not, there is a term for this: carpetbagger.

Haven't we had enough problems with the assessor position lately to allow for this nonsense?
