Three people face charges in animal cruelty cases

Christina Dowdy and Ben Hilton of Pasco are charged with animal cruelty for leaving this dog tied up outside the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter.

Three people face separate charges of animal cruelty involving two dogs, one tossed in a trash can and the other left tied up at the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter in Pasco.

Christina Dowdy and Ben Hilton of Pasco were charged with animal cruelty by the city of Pasco after leaving a severely ill female lab mix tied up at the animal shelter in April, said Angela Zilar, director of the shelter.

Dowdy admitted they left the dog tied up at the Pasco shelter because they didn’t have the money to take it to a veterinarian, Zilar said.

Shelter staff found the dog the next day and took her to a Pasco vet for treatment. She had to be euthanized because of advanced cancer.

Lisa Catherine Hamilton, of Richland, faces animal cruelty charges in Benton County District Court for allegedly dumping a female maltese in a trash can at a Richland assisted living compound.

The maltese, named Deliah, was turned over to the shelter. A microchip identified Hamilton as the owner, though she denies tossing the dog in the trash, Ziler said.

The maltese went to a foster home and the foster mother decided to keep the dog.
