Pasco hospital running on diesel while gas leak investigated

By the Herald staffJune 11, 2014

PASCO -- Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco will continue running on diesel power while officials inspect and re-certify all the natural gas lines following a leak Tuesday night.

That process is expected to take a few days, although Lourdes has enough diesel to run for about 13 days and has the ability to refuel on site without interrupting service if needed, a Lourdes spokeswoman said.

A gas leak was detected about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Part of the hospital temporarily was evacuated.

Spokeswoman Melanie Johnston said the leak originated in the boiler room, which is in a separate building from the hospital.
