Letter: Emulate D.P. Dillon

June 9, 2014

D.P. Dillon was my uncle. We were with him every week almost for 20 years, for at least dinner and discussions. The last four years, he needed 24-hour care. We, the family, would like to thank all who helped him. Joe, Father Richard and Tina spent many hours finding and supporting all the caregivers. A heroic mission to say the least.

Monsignor Dillon followed a rigorous schedule, rising at five to get dressed and pray. He was a man of disciplined prayer. At 3 p.m., he would go through the stations of the Cross and spend an hour in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.

I watched his ideas blossom into full bloom. Thanks to all the people who supported him in implementing them.

Jesus said, "Streams of living water will flow from the hearts of all who believe in me," according to the Gospel of John. Monsignor Dillon did as St. John directed and drank every day from the wells of the spirit of God.

At age 99, he died with his boots on, so to speak. Let us follow his example of taking time to pray every day so that we too can work as hard as we can for the Kingdom of God.
