Othello man drowns in Long Lake

June 8, 2014

An Othello man drown Friday night in Long Lake north of the county line between Adams and Grant counties.

Arturo Valdez Jr., 31, was reportedly fishing in the northwest area of Long Lake when he went into the water and didn’t resurface, the Grant County Sheriff’s office stated in a press release.

The victim’s younger brother heard a splash but could not see Valdez and called for help. Another fishing party in the area came to help but they couldn’t locate the victim either, authorities said.

Grant County Fire Districts 4 and 5 responded with a water rescue unit and located Valdez in about 32 feet of water just below the area he fell into.

An autopsy was performed Saturday but details won’t be released until next week. Authorities don’t suspect any foul play in the drowning.
