Umatilla man falls asleep at the wheel

A Umatilla man crashed his car on Highway 221 on Saturday after falling asleep at the wheel, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Santiago Reyes-Gutierrez was southbound on the highway at about 1:15 p.m. when he drifted to the shoulder, overcorrected then crossed the northbound land of traffic and rolled his 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. The vehicle came to rest on its top.

Reyes-Gutierrez was transported to Prosser Memorial Hospital where his condition was not available.

He faces negligent driving charges, the WSP stated.
