Tri-City HeraldJune 5, 2014

A head-on wreck on Highway 124 about three miles east of Burbank sent two people to the hospital Wednesday evening.

The wreck happened about 5:10 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol. Angela M. Whitesell, 35, of Kennewick, was driving a 2006 Pontiac G6 west on the highway when she attempted to pass a group of slow-moving vehicles and struck an eastbound 2003 Volkswagen Passat head on, the state patrol said.

Whitesell was taken by ambulance to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, the patrol said.

Billi Jo Peterson, 36, of Burbank, driver of the Volkswagen, was flown to the hospital, troopers said.

The state patrol still is investigating. Drugs and alcohol weren’t involved. Both women were buckled up.
