Sacajawea Bluegrass Festival planned June 13-15

Dori O'Neal, Tri-City HeraldJune 4, 2014

The annual Sacajawea Bluegrass Festival is June 13-15 at Sacajawea State Park off Highway 12 near the Snake River in Pasco.

"We have a quality lineup this year and great variety," said Dennis Miller, president of the Mid-Columbia Traditional Arts & Music Association, which sponsors the festival. "On Saturday morning there also will be free workshops from band members offered, along with a free children's workshop for all bluegrass instruments.

"As always, there will be cast iron activities to join in with delicious food to share. And jamming all around the (state park) is always a highlight."

Headlining this year's fest will be John Reischman and the Jaybirds, with coheadliners to include Ned Crisp & Bottomline, Thirdstreet, Bluegrass Band, Sweet Lowdown, North Country and Rural Delivery.

Reischman, from Canada, is one of the top-ranked contemporary mandolin players in the country, Miller said. Sweet Lowdown, also a Canadian group, is an all-female band who blend harmonies with hard-driving blues. The women also provide the music for the June 13 contra dance in the park.

Ned Crisp's band from Kentucky will feature some local flavor to this year's festival as Pasco teen Zach Top steps in as guitarist with the group. Top is from the talented Top Family Band, he added. North Country is from Seattle and plays acoustic bluegrass.

If tickets are purchased before June 11, the cost for a weekend pass is $25, otherwise cost is $35 starting June 12. Individual day passes are $18 for June 13, $20 for June 14 and $10 for June 15. Kids ages 15 and younger are free as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are available at Ranch & Home on Columbia Center Boulevard in Kennewick, at brownpapertickets.com or at the gate.

The state park Discovery Pass access fee also is required to enter the festival June 13 and 15, but there is no access fee for June 14 festivities.

The festival runs from 5 p.m. to midnight June 13, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 14 and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 15
