The annual Chalk Art Festival, now in its 15th year, is June 14 at the Uptown Shopping Center in Richland.

Added to this year's festival will be an Art Walk following the award ceremony starting at 4:30 p.m. The Art Walk will feature all the winning entries

Any one from toddlers to grownups are invited to take part. Registration fees range are from $5 to $12 depending on age. There is a $2 discount for those who register by June 12. The entry fee includes the special chalk used to create the masterpieces.

Preregister at Amber Rose, Sunken Treasures or the Octopus' Garden, all businesses in the Uptown. Winners receive prizes in all age categories.

The festival opens at 9 a.m. and judging is at noon June 14. Winners are announced at 4 p.m.

Last year's festival had 150 chalk artists, and organizers expect about 170 entries this year, said Gus Sako, owner of Octopus' Garden.

"The chalk art ranges from exuberant scribbling by the youngest kids up through amazing landscapes, comic interpretations and fool the eye pieces," Sako said of past festival entries.
