Tri-Tech student teams among top finishers at WSU competition

Two student teams from Tri-Tech Skills Center were among the top four at a recent design and engineering competition at Washington State University.

Kamiakin High School students Jose Anguiano, Alberto Anguiano and Manuel Rodriguez and Chiawana High School student Heriberto Alonso took third place in the Imagine Tomorrow competition's design category, a release said.

The student team designed a mobile shower/bathroom powered by solar energy that could be used by the homeless.

Another team made up of Connell High School student Austin Wolley, Chiawana student Candy Zuniga, Southridge High School student Milagro Manzanares and Pasco High School student Alexa Castellanos took fourth place in the technology division

They designed a UV oven project that could be used for cooking and water purification in lesser-developed nations.

The students each received scholarships ranging between $250 and $500.
