Letter: Give vets options

June 3, 2014

There have always been problems with the VA. First, it takes several months to determine eligibility. Then there's a wait to get an appointment, and the need (for most) to travel 1 to 4 hours to a VA facility. Even then, eligibility can be withdrawn at any time, even while the patient is with a doctor.

And that's just when the system works, not when bureaucrats screw with the system to make themselves look good.

Do away with the VA. Issue all honorably discharged veterans an ID card and let them seek medical attention at any convenient and appropriate medical facility.
