Letter: Keep up with the times

June 3, 2014

It appears some Richland City Council members, namely, Phillip Lemley, Sandra Kent, Gregory Jones and Terry Christiansen are trapped in the past like the upcoming mural depicting 1950s style car and beauty salon gadgets, which are planned for public viewing in the Uptown Shopping Center.

The votes cast on May 20 favoring the Hayden Homes Clearwater Creek development allowing a zone change from agriculture to residential housing simply reflect the attitude of an era when open land was easily available to the city like back in the 1950s.

The defense of development should reflect the current conditions of available land. Codes and city ordinances need to be updated to keep the quality of life we cherish today and for the future at its optimum.
