Kennewick couple to break ground on home after loan help from First Story

Tri-City HeraldJune 1, 2014

A Kennewick couple will begin building their new home June 5 thanks to help from First Story, a nonprofit group offering zero interest home loans to qualified buyers.

The couple, Kenneth and Jolene Smith of Kennewick, with help from Tri-City builder Hayden Watson, will build at 9459 W. Ninth Place, Kennewick.

Watson is the founder of First Story and CEO of Hayden Homes.

"This home has opened up a world of dreams for us. It will allow us to grow, develop and nurture our family in the community that we want to raise our kids in," wrote Kenneth Smith in his application for the home. The couple have two children.

To qualify for the First Story home, the Smiths went through a comprehensive interview and assessment process and were required to meet certain income guidelines. The Smith family will buy the home through a zero down payment and a zero interest 30-year home loan from First Story.
