Letter: Spending our money

May 30, 2014

Every time government agencies want more money and higher taxes, they declare it is for "safety" of some kind. Their own incompetence at spending money wisely is never the problem. Bad legal decisions cost a lot of money. The city of Kennewick has lost several court cases. There might be insurance to cover them on a case-by-case issue, but guess what insurance companies do to recover the money -- yep, they raise the premiums. And who pays? Yep, the taxpayers.

Pay attention to the next fire or police action you happen onto. The ones I've seen lately appear to have "overkill" -- every fire truck and police car in the county shows up to enjoy the excitement. Is that the best way to spend the taxpayers' money?
