Thankful Thursday: Steel drums

May 29, 2014

When we drove into the Pasco Senior Center for a brunch honoring the more than 300 volunteers who are involved with Meals on Wheels last Saturday we were astounded to see the Tri-Cities Steel Drum Band unloading their equipment. We felt that we were too old for that sort of noise and immediately began turning down our hearing aids and moving to the back of the room.

Those young people taught us a thing or two about performing and we in turn gave them a standing ovation! They played pieces ranging from Italian Opera to New Orleans jazz with some fine Cole Porter thrown in and none of them had to blast us out of the room.

This group is talented, dedicated and so well trained that their whole performance was a pleasure and I, for one, would like to hear more.
