Tri-City HeraldMay 27, 2014

The real estate search blog Movoto has placed West Richland at No. 6 on its list of the safest cities in Washington.

The rankings are for 74 cities with populations larger than 10,000 people, and are based on the numbers of murders, violent crimes, property crimes and total crimes.

West Richland had 1,137 property crimes and 114 violent crimes per 100,000 residents in 2012, according to the blog post. The city saw no rapes or murders that year.

Pullman, ranked No. 5, was the only other Eastern Washington city in the top 10. Sammamish was No. 1, followed by Snoqualmie and Bainbridge Island.

Richland was the next safest Mid-Columbia city, coming in at 19th, the blog post said. Pasco was No. 41, Kennewick was ranked No. 44 and Grandview was No. 47. Yakima and Tukwila were named the least safe cities of those ranked.
